Types of HPL Sandwich Panel

Rock Wool Core HPL Sandwich Panel
Rock Wool Core HPL Sandwich Panel

The rock wool core is made of A-grade non-combustible material and delivers excellent sound insulation and heat insulation properties, as well as high compressive strength and stable structure.

If your project has specific fire safety requirements, such as in production workshops, electrical workshops, or densely populated areas, the rock wool core HPL sandwich panel is a more reliable choice, which effectively decreases the fire compliance risk.

Magnesium Oxide Core HPL Sandwich Panel
Magnesium Oxide Core HPL Sandwich Panel

The GFRP core shows moisture-proofing, mold-proofing, and lightweight, high-strength. It does not develop condensation, mold, or deformation in high-humidity environments.

In environments with long-term humidity above 80%, such as ceiling panels in clean workshops or auxiliary spaces, the magnesium oxide core HPL sandwich panel offers greater stability and service life.

Polyurethane (PUR) and Polyisocyanurate (PIR) Core HPL Sandwich Panel
Polyurethane (PUR) and Polyisocyanurate (PIR) Core HPL Sandwich Panel

The PUR and PIR cores have extremely low thermal conductivity, less than 0.025 W/(m·K). This shows significant outperformance of conventional cores in insulation performance.

If your project involves cold storage partitions, constant temperature workshops, or spaces with high energy consumption control requirements, the PUR and PIR Core HPL sandwich panel can help you effectively reduce cooling energy consumption over the long term.

Honeycomb Core HPL Sandwich Panel
Honeycomb Core HPL Sandwich Panel

The honeycomb core structure has excellent flatness and a high strength-to-weight ratio, significantly reducing self-weight while maintaining rigidity.

It is well-suited for applications requiring both lightweightness and structural stability, such as prefabricated partitions, equipment enclosures, and modular building systems.

In fire compartments, equipment partitions, and constant-temperature spaces in industrial plants, you can customize and configure HPL sandwich panels to meet requirements such as structural safety, functional zoning, and construction efficiency.

What Are The Differences Between HPL Sandwich Panel and Ordinary Sandwich Panels?

Compared with ordinary sandwich panels, HPL sandwich panels have more advantages in terms of wear resistance, scratch resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and service life. They are more suitable for applications with high requirements for material performance, such as hospitals, laboratories, and clean workshops.

Is It Suitable For Old Factory Buildings Or Renovation Projects?

Yes. The HPL sandwich panel is controllable in weight and has a short installation period.

Without significantly increasing the original structural load, it can efficiently complete factory upgrades and renovations.

Can an HPL Sandwich Panel Be Cut On-Site?

Yes. We usually use a professional electric circular saw and a diamond blade to cut the HPL sandwich panel onsite. It is recommended that you measure the size precisely before cutting, and seal the cut edges after cutting to prevent the core material from becoming damp.

How to Ensure The Product Surface Is Not Damaged During Transportation?

All panels are covered with PVC protective film before leaving the factory, which effectively prevents scratches or contamination during transportation and loading/unloading, ensuring a good surface condition upon arrival.

What Are The Common Specifications for HPL Sandwich Panels?

The standard specifications include 3050 × 1300 mm and 2150 × 900 mm. We can also cut the panels to the required size according to the on-site drawings.

For thickness, the HPL layer typically ranges from 0.5 mm to 4 mm. Alternative thickness combinations are also available to meet different project requirements for strength, abrasion resistance, or cost control.

How to Choose the Appropriate HPL Sandwich Panel?

During the selection stage, it is recommended that you make a comprehensive judgment based on the usage scenario, fire protection requirements, and overall engineering standards.

For example, if the project has specific fire-rating requirements, such as in industrial plants with high safety standards, it is advisable to prioritize A-grade non-combustible inorganic core materials to ensure the overall system meets applicable fire protection regulations.

How Long Is the Service Life of The HPL Sandwich Panel?

Under normal use and maintenance conditions, the service life of HPL sandwich panels is typically 15-20 years. Its long-term maintenance cost is approximately one-fifth of that of traditional panels and is more suitable for projects that pursue long-term stable operation.

What Is The HPL Sandwich Panel?

What Is The HPL Sandwich Panel

HPL sandwich panel adopts high-pressure laminate as the surface layer and is combined with different functional core materials. This structure can offer you a good appearance consistency and also takes into account surface wear resistance, structural stability ,and fire safety, which can meet the requirements of high usage strength and hygiene conditions in engineering scenarios.

In practical projects, the HPL sandwich panel is often used as interior wall panels and ceiling systems. They are widely applied in clean workshops, laboratories, hospitals, food processing plants, industrial factory functional partitions, and other areas as well.

The Composition of HPL Sandwich Panel

An HPL sandwich panel consists of two upper and lower HPL-facing layers, a central core material, and a dedicated bonding system. They are pressed together through a continuous composite process.

HPL Surface

The HPL facing layer is formed by impregnating multiple layers of kraft paper with phenolic resin and then pressing it at 140-150℃ under approximately 1500 tons of pressure.

The HPL surface can be customized with decorative effects such as wood grain, stone texture, and solid color to meet your project requirements. After installation, there is no need for secondary painting or surface treatment.

Its surface wear resistance level can reach EN 438-2 standard T grade, and it also provides good chemical resistance and anti-stain ability at the same time. During daily maintenance, you can simply wipe it with regular cleaning agents or disinfectants, which are suitable for places with strict requirements for hygiene and cleanliness.

Core Material

Depending on the working conditions, HPL sandwich panels can be selected with various core materials, including rock wool, glass fiber-reinforced plastic, polyurethane (PU), aluminum honeycomb, and other materials. You can choose according to needs.

For example, if the application is a constant-temperature workshop, it is recommended that you choose the polyurethane (PU) core for better insulation performance.

Bonding Agent

It is common to adopt modified polyurethane glue or high-performance epoxy glue as bonding systems, which ensure your HPL facing layer and the core material maintain stable adhesion in the usage environment ranging from -30℃ to 80℃. This could decrease the delamination and cracking risk, which may lead to a higher maintenance cost.

How to Install HPL Sandwich Panels?

How to Install HPL Sandwich Panels

HPL sandwich panels are typically installed using a modular tongue-and-groove connection, which offers high construction efficiency, neat seams, and is suitable for industrialized, rapid installation scenarios.

The standard installation process is as follows:

Conduct on-site layout according to the drawings and fix the light steel keels as the load-bearing and installation foundation;

Then embed the panels in the keel structure and fix them with self-tapping screws on the sides. The recommended spacing of the screws is less than 300 mm to ensure uniform force distribution on the panels.

Embed special sealing strips at the seam of the panels and apply weatherproof sealant to enhance the overall airtightness and dustproof performance.

Finally, install the corner pieces, such as the recessed corners, exposed corners, and edge protection, to keep overall aesthetics and system integrity.

During construction, pay close attention to avoid single-point stress on the panels, which can cause local deformation from stress concentration. At the same time, the sealant at the seam should be filled evenly and continuously. If used on the roof or top area, it is recommended to reserve a 2%–3% drainage slope to reduce the risk of long-term water seepage.
