What Difference between EPS Sandwich Panels And Regular EPS Panels?

EPS sandwich panels adopt a three-layer composite structure. Ordinary EPS panels are typically used as a single insulation material.

This sandwich structure significantly enhances the structural stability, bending resistance, and overall durability of the panels. At the same time, it is more suitable for direct installation as a wall or roof enclosure system while maintaining good insulation performance.

Where Are The Main Differences between EPS Sandwich Panels And PU/PIR Sandwich Panels?

Compared with PU/PIR sandwich panels, EPS sandwich panels offer greater cost and construction economy advantages.

To meet the project’s fire protection grade requirements, EPS sandwich panels are often used in cost-sensitive industrial buildings that still require reliable insulation and structural performance.

Are EPS Sandwich Panels Easy to Age or Flake?

When using suitable flame-retardant EPS core material and adopting continuous composite technology, EPS sandwich panels will not experience rapid aging or flaking in normal operating environments.

Are EPS Sandwich Panels Suitable to Be Used in Cold Storage, Clean Rooms, Or Constant Temperature Factories?

For low-temperature or clean environments, it is common to use thicker board types, sealed tongue-and-groove designs, and moisture-proof structures, which can improve insulation stability and reduce cold bridge and condensation risks.

What Is The Installation Method of EPS Sandwich Panels?

EPS sandwich panels are installed using a modular assembly process. They are typically secured to steel or concrete structures using self-tapping screws or specialized connecting components.

What Is An EPS Sandwich Panel?

The EPS sandwich panel is a lightweight and cost-effective building enclosure material. It is formed by dedicated continuous-composite equipment, in which two layers of metal or inorganic facing materials are combined with an expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam core and then pressed and molded.

This structure provides reliable structural integrity, excellent insulation and soundproofing, and significantly improves on-site installation efficiency.

For projects focused on cost control, construction duration, and energy savings, EPS sandwich panels are a mature, reliable solution backed by extensive engineering practice.

Composition of EPS Sandwich Panels

Face Layer Material

Face layer material

The face layer determines your structural strength, durability, and appearance of the sandwich panel.

Coated steel sheet: The coated steel sheet’s thickness is usually 0.3–0.8 mm, and it is the most commonly used and cost-effective face layer material. This balances strength, cost, and construction convenience. You can significantly enhance the overall appearance of the factory or building by customizing colors, coating types, and panel shapes without increasing costs.

Aluminum sheet: The aluminum sheet is lightweight, resistant to oxidation, and has a weight of only one-third that of steel plates. It is more suitable for coastal areas or high-humidity, high-corrosion environments, reducing structural loads while enhancing long-term weather resistance.

Stainless steel sheet: Common thickness is 0.3–0.6 mm, with excellent corrosion resistance and easy cleaning. It has high structural strength. So it is mostly used in places with high cleanliness or chemical corrosion requirements, such as food processing workshops,

pharmaceutical purification workshops and clean buildings.

Cement-based panels / fiber cement panels: They can provide higher durability and fire resistance, and are often used for buildings with high fire protection requirements.

Core Material

EPS core material is made by foaming, curing, and shaping of polystyrene particles, and is a lightweight, closed-cell insulation material. The common density range is 18–25 kg/m³.

It is worth noting that the higher the core material density, the better the insulation performance and compressive strength. In addition, it is recommended that you select flame-retardant EPS (flame retardancy index ≥ 30) in engineering applications to meet building fire safety and safety regulations.

Bonding Layer

The face layer and EPS core material are bonded together by polyurethane glue or modified phenolic glue. The glue’s applicable temperature range is -50℃ to 120℃, and its bond strength exceeds 0.1 MPa. The stable bonding layer can effectively prevent the panels from layering, cracking, or delamination during your long time use.

Surface Treatment

Common coatings include polyester, PVDF, and plastisol, which can deliver you additional protection against UV rays, chemical corrosion, and weathering.

You can comprehensively select the specific surface layer materials and coating schemes based on the project environment, usage period requirement,s and appearance preferences.

How to Choose EPS Sandwich Panels

Flame-retardant EPS Core Materials

In actual projects, it is recommended to select EPS Sandwich Panels with a B1 or higher flame-retardant rating, and to require the supplier to provide a complete third-party test report.

Suitable Surface Layer Materials

Suitable Surface layer Materials

The quality of the surface-layer steel plate largely determines the service life of the actual EPS sandwich panels. Please pay close attention to the thickness of the galvanized layer and the adhesion of the surface coating to avoid premature rusting, peeling, or paint loss in humid or industrial environments.

For example, for coastal or highly corrosive environments, it is recommended to use aluminum-zinc-plated or stainless steel surface layers. If your project is a purification workshop or clean room, the specialized EPS sandwich panels for purification have a good balance between cost control and clean performance. Its antibacterial surface layer and flat, seamless structural design are more conducive to daily cleaning and long-term use.

The Adhesive’s Bonding Performance

The quality of the adhesive is often overlooked, but it is particularly crucial in low-temperature or temperature-difference environments.

If your project involves cold storage, cold chain workshops, or winter construction, it is necessary to choose low-temperature-resistant adhesives to prevent board delamination due to adhesive detachment later, which will increase your maintenance costs.
